Wedding Wednesday - The Reception Table Camera Style..

We had camera's out on a lot of tables. I wanted to do this because I knew they would crack me up. We didn't have one on EVERY table, but a lot. It was a lot of fun to go through and check out all the pictures

Wedding Wednesday - The Reception Official Photog Style

I have an insane amount of photos from the reception and a lot I want to share.. So today I will be just sharing the pictures our photographer. I have a ton from the table cameras that are funny. First thing we did when we walked in was cut the cake. My husband may be a dork and my have tried to feed HIMSELF first, so we had to do it twice. We had dinner around 6 and it was delicious. I don't even remember all we had but I do know green bean casserole was involved. As was garlic mashed potatoes, fruit, chicken and some other good stuff. Sad that I don't have such a grand memory of it all but I do know my food was awesome. Our DJ managed to piss me off by having everyone yell Get 'r Done when Anthony went to get my garter. Livid would better describe my feelings. Also, he seemed to dismiss what I had to say and do what he wanted to do. Not cool. Not cool at all. Unfortunately I will be dealing with him again in October at my SIL's wedding. Blech. Not a fan.

us being silly
him feeding himself.. me standing looking at him like he's crazy. and the yummy cookies. mmmmm

one of my favorite pics..

so they are a little out of order.. whoops. hahah
My favorite part of the reception was definitely the dancing and hanging out with everyone. I have pictures of that for next week! If you have a wedding story you want to share for Wedding Wednesday email me at pinkflipflops44 at gmail dot com!

Wedding Wednesday - Picture taking...

So, that lovely time between ceremony and reception when all you want to do is have a drink and perhaps some food with your friends.. totally doesn't end up relaxing in the least. We were jam packed with pictures, missed out on hors 'doeuvre and didn't get a drink. Sad face. Oh and I hate all of my wedding photos. That minor detail. Whoops. Anyway, we had some pictures taken before the ceremony, but it seemed like we took a bunch afterwards too. The lighting/photos do not do the background justice.. Pretty disappointing.

My advice to everyone is honestly, care about your photos and photographer. I did not and we went with cheap and someone we knew. I really wish I would have. If you don't splurge on anything, SPLURGE ON PICTURES. THEY LAST FOREVER. AND BAD PICTURES DO EXIST. / end of public service rant.. you will thank me. (oh and even after i filled out a ridiculous form of what photos and who i wanted in them to be taken.. there is not a single family photo with my brother in it .. )

now some pictures that I can stand..

giving the tude..

aww.. ;)

Wedding Wednesday - The Ceremony

The day of the ceremony I woke up and it was 39 degrees outside. It was August 18th. WTF? But do not be alarmed by 4pm when I waltzed down the aisle it was a sweaty late afternoon with a hint of rain in the future. My wedding day was beautiful.

I woke up on the couch of my best-friends house early and the hair work began immediately. She did my hair, my moms and some other girls and another friend came and did a few other girls hair. The only people not with us were my future sis-in-laws. It was a great morning of laughs, food, drink and girlie time.

Wedding Day regret number 1 began with having someone else do my makeup and hating the way it looked later in photos.

Oh and did I mention I swell BADLY in summer? Yeah, I was an effing whale bride. Yay me. I gained a CRAP ton of weight the summer of my wedding.. Hello stress eating. Why can't I be of the not eating because of stress variety?

Anyway.... we arrived at the wedding/reception site LATE of course.. Whoops.. After telling the boys an hour earlier time that they all showed up on time for .. whoops.. We got ready in a hurry and that just meant the boys were done early and had more time to sit around and drink.. ha.

Our wedding started promptly at 4 and I walked down to my uncle singing "She" by Elvis Costello. It was beautiful. The ceremony was what I wanted. Full of laughs, friends and love. Short and sweet. (Did I mention the outrageous comment my uncle made out exotic shaving during our ceremony? Yeah.. that may be why my family was mortified I was having him marry us.. ohh the drama) It was made longer only by my attempts to fit people into it that meant a lot to me/us. My uncle sang a song that he had performed at my parents wedding and my friend sang a song cuz she is AMAZING. All too quickly the ceremony was over and it was off to picture time.. blech

We did not have any bible readings at our ceremony mainly because we have seen Wedding Crashers one too many times and laugh out loud at weddings when we can guess the readings they will have. What is ONE thing you always roll your eyes about at wedding ceremonies?

Wedding Wednesday - Rehearsal

Our rehearsal was really laid back. I mean, we weren't getting married in a church and it was outside. Basically, we had one because my uncle (who had been ordained online) had never performed a wedding before and we had to determine where people would stand and check out the sound system. Oh, and we could decorate the room so, we decided a quickie rehearsal and a good dinner was the way to go.

Our photographer came as well, to get a feel for pictures, lighting and what not. Everyone in the wedding party was able to make it and a few aunts and uncles came to help decorate. Yay.

our three adorable ring bearers

my daddy and me...

the gang.. :)

After the rehearsal, we headed to this realllly good Italian place for a rehearsal dinner put on by our parents. We ordered about 5 different kinds of pizza? I am not sure of the number I can't remember, bread sticks, salad and pasta. Everyone ate what as much or as little as they wanted. We may have had dessert, but I don't remember.

eating the yummy food...

with our parents...

After, we were done eating we gave out our gifts to our bridesmaids and groomsmen. I gave my girls, earrings and a necklace to wear in the wedding and Anthony gave his guys a beer mug. Real original, I know. We were going to give our parents a night at a hotel up north but realized they would never get around to using it, so we got them each a half-season of tickets for the local minor league baseball team.

The town we got married in, is known as having the most bars per capita, so after dinner on the famous street we headed down the road and popped into some bars and to the local martini bar and enjoyed some beverages all together.

I think around 12 or 1 we started breaking up, and I headed to my best-friends house with most of the girls and my husband left to go back to our house with his cousin.. and that is how the last day of singledom ended for me.. ;)

Wedding Wednesday - Bachlorette Party

Now, this was a lot of fun. I was really looking forward to my Bachlorette Party and my friends did not let me down. We did play some silly games, (not a fan) but they weren't too bad.

Our evening started with my ladies coming to my houses for appetizers made by my lovely friends, getting our t-shirts that my friend had made up, and opening some presents that the ladies got me. My mom and MIL were present at the beginning part, where we kept it tame and they had a lot of fun with us. Present were: Matron of Honor, Sarah, Maid of Honor, Lisa, Bridesmaid's Ashley, Amanda and Lane and friend Jen and my husband's cousin Annie.

After, everyone arrived from far and near we car pooled into town to have a dinner at Applebee's. Yum girly cocktails. We had a lot of fun and I had a sparkly hat to wear, what can be bad about that? (Oh yeah, the sweat from dancing in a couple more hours. That was a Bridesmaid idea FAIL. Ugh.. It got sooo hot and sweaty and I couldn't take it off because my hair was soo gross oh and I also had the worst ever stress acne around wedding time. yay fun. ha )

After that we went back to my BFF's house to drop off our belongings and condense in cars even more. We walked into the kitchen to a giant blow up penis hanging from the light. Oh lordy. My friend was mortified because she forgot my MIL was coming. ha ha..

Then we went downtown to our local bars. Did I mention my BFF was about 7 months pregnant at this point? Yeah not fun. Anyway, we went to this bar first mainly because they had outdoor seating, and my other friend's bachelorette party was that night so we saw her and her ladies for a bit and had pictures taken together.

After this bar, we went to the one bar in town where people go to dance and said goodbye to my mom and MIL. We spent the rest of the night here boogieing down and met up with a bachelor party where the bachelor was a bit strange and I got dared to dance with him. UGHHHH ew. And there was the token married guy who kept giving me advice "to keep doing what I had been doing" before marriage and don't withhold afterwards. Holy hysterical conversation there.

Around closing, we walked across the road to the "quiet bar" and danced to the band they had, quite ridiculously and closed down that place. At that point we called my BFF'S husband to come pick us up because the original idea of walking, sounded bad and we all smashed into the 5 block car ride. :)

I would have to say the highlight would the the random guys who followed us to all three bars, whose names none of us good remember, yet we remember them taking photos with us and telling us to find them on myspace. I am sure they are very special photos. The other highlight? A great night of dancing and laughing with my girlfriends.

What's the craziest bachelorette party you've been to or witnessed?? I SOO cannot wait until my SIL's bachelorette party.. :)

Wedding Wednesday - Planning the Ceremony

When you aren't getting married in a church and your uncle who gets ordained is the person marrying you, you pretty much have to plan the ceremony by the minute. If it were not for google and the many random Internet sources, I'm sure I would have gone crazy. I also had collected a bunch of programs from other weddings, and used them to follow the order around and what not. I would say it took me a couple hours total planning everything. This is how our ceremony went down.

Prelude (Bach)
Seating of the Grandparents
Order: Grandma D (Seated by Groom)
Grandma V (Seated by Best Man)
Grandma G (Seated by Groom)
Grandma N (Seated by Bride's Brother)

Seating of the Parents
Order: MIL (Seated by GROOM) he then goes to front
Bride's Mom (Seated by Bride's Brother) he walks back out (after everyone is seated mom and MIL will go and light the unity candle) - Except we didn't end up lighting it because it was slightly windy. I think we ended up having it at our head table.

Bridal Party Processional –Jesu of Man’s Desiring
Order: yada yada yada

Bride – Uncle Jeff sings “She” by Elvis Costello (dad walks me down and then sits down next to mom then we do the welcoming)

Welcoming - Friends, we have been invited here today to share with Emily and Anthony, a very important moment in their lives. In the years they have been together, their love and understanding of each other has grown and matured, and now they have decided to live their lives together as husband and wife. At this time they would like their friend Jenny to read a special poem. ( I found this online and probably copied it word for word with a few changes.)
Reading (By Jen)

MY LOVE~ Linda Lee Elrod ~
When I met you, I had no idea
how much my life
was about to be changed...
but then, how could I have known?
A love like ours happens
once in a lifetime.
You were a miracle to me,
the one who was everything
I had ever dreamed of,
the one I thought existed
only in my imagination.
And when you came into my life,
I realized that what I
had always thought
was happiness
couldn't compare to the joy
loving you brought me.
You are a part of everything
I think and do and feel,
and with you by my side,
I believe that anything is possible.
(this day) gives me a chance
to thank you for the miracle of you...
you are, and always will be,
the love of my life. (end sappy fest)

Officiant – Discuss seriousness of marriage. How he knows the bride and groom. About our relationship from what he has witnessed.

Wedding Vows –
Anthony says: I (Anthony), take you (Emily) to be my (wife), my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before. I will trust you and respect you, laugh with you and cry with you, loving you faithfully through good times and bad, regardless of the obstacles we may face together. I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward for as long as we both shall live.
Emily says: I (Emily), take you (Anthony) to be my (husband), my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before. I will trust you and respect you, laugh with you and cry with you, loving you faithfully through good times and bad, regardless of the obstacles we may face together. I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward for as long as we both shall live.

Solo – Megan singing “When You Say Nothing At All” by Allison Krause

Lighting of the Unity Candle (while Megan is singing Anthony and I will light it)

Exchange of Rings –
Anthony says: This ring is a token of my love. I marry you with this ring, with all that I have and all that I am.
Emily says: This ring is a token of my love. I marry you with this ring, with all that I have and all that I am.

Solo – Uncle Jeff singing “Looking Through The Eyes of Love” originally by Melissa Manchester

Closing: Because Emily and Anthony have desired each other in marriage, and we have witnessed this, affirming their acceptance of the responsibilities of such a union, and they have pledged their love and faith to each other, sealing their vows in the giving and receiving of rings, I do proclaim that they are husband and wife. Let all people here and everywhere recognize and respect this union, now and forever. Anthony, you may now kiss your bride.

Introduction of the Bride and Groom: It is now my privilege to introduce to you for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. .....

Recessional: Music “My Best Friend” by Tim McGraw
Reverse Order of the Bridal Party
Anthony and Emily return to greet and dismiss guests

And all of that took around 20 minutes or so.

Anyone else have to write out their whole ceremony? What songs will you/did you have at your wedding? Any particular poems or readings you would want?

Wedding Wednesday..

Sorry guys, taking a break this week because I didn't get the snow day I should have and this week is crazy busy at work. :( Have a nice 4 day weekend coming up which excites me greatly.

Though, in wedding news, I am a bridesmaid in my sister-in-law's wedding that is most likely going to be in October! Going dress shopping this weekend. Eek.

Has anyone started The Reader? Anything you want to share? I am starting it this weekend on my break.

Now I am back to finish getting things ready for the Valentine's Day party and crashing early tonight.

Wedding Wednesday - Bridal Shower #2

When I first plotted out sharing my wedding I thought for sure I should have broken the showers apart. But now, as I am going back and talking about them and posting the pictures, I apparently realize that most of my pictures from both events are hard copies and not on the computer. Whoops. :)

Anyhoo, my mom and my aunts threw me a shower about a month before I got married. I would include my grandma in the throwing but all she did was demand there was nuts and mints on the tables. :) Love her and miss her. I had a bowl of those the other day and about cried. Eesh.. Anyway, moving on...

The bridal shower is actually where I got my final cake idea from. My Aunt Jodi was in charge of getting the cake and I could NOT stop gushing about it. Finally, she started laughing and told me the "story" behind the cake. She got it from a local bakery that makes FABULOUS stuff. Like OMG this is amazing stuff. She picked it up the day before the shower and took it home. She got home and the cake and SLID OFF the cake plate. CAKE EVERYWHERE. She was trying to like slab it together and it was soooo not happening. FREAK accident. She calls in a panic and they somehow managed to FIX the cake (free of charge of but she had to pick it up THE DAY OF THE SHOWER.) Needless to say she made my other aunt carry it the entire way to the shower hahaha. The story was a lot funnier and better told in person and if I would have told it to you oh say 2 years ago. ;) Just trust me on it.

totally worth all the hassle.... ;)

My aunts and mom made alllll of my favorite foods. We had Day Ahead Salad, snicker bar and apple salad, fruit, taco salad and sub sandwiches. Yum. I had great food at both showers.

mmmm.. forgot about that delicious fruit salad!

I also received some awesome gifts at this shower. I got some lingerie (ooh lalala), an awesome cooler, wall art, an AWESOME blender, more dishes, my bathroom stuff (curtain, liners, toothbrush holder etc..) towels and lots more. I was seriously spoiled at my showers.

actually for my husband.. for his Man Room

We also had some games. My aunt had a game with Famous Couples and you were given the name and you had to come up with the show they were in. It was alright and different. I really don't remember any other games.. :)

Oh and I apologize for my terrible appearance. Apparently when you don't actually pre-plan what you are going to wear to your shower and then realize the new shirt you bought was an XTRA SMALL and therefore not going to fit and you have NOTHING ELSE TO wear apparently pants in July was a good idea. Also, notice that it must have been ridiculously humid since my hair is SOOO PUKEY. ugh..

What was the WORST Bridal Shower / any shower that you've attended???

Wedding Wednesday - Bridal Shower #1

I am not sure if I mentioned in my earlier posts or just alluded to the fact that we had well over 300 people at our wedding. Yikes. Mainly because my husband has a HUGE family. So it only was natural we have two showers. Or I would have been there for days or we would have been crowded or some important people to me would have been left out.

So yeah, two showers. My MIL, my SIL's and my husband's aunts put on a wonderful shower for me at my in-laws church. Like anytime that family is together, we had a ton of great food. It was a lovely Mexican themed lunch with lots of good desserts. Absolutely fabulous. We played games. Of course.. Why can't women get together without stupid games?? I know for sure we played Bingo while I opened my presents and people had filled out squares as to what they thought I would get. I also know we played a true or false game about my husband and I. Though as I am thinking back right now I am not sure if that was played at this shower or my other one.

I do know that I received some pretty awesome gifts. I got a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer, lots of kitchen utensils, some of my dishes, a blanket with our names and wedding date, photo albums, lots of stuff for my kitchen and some Pyrex.

Not only was the shower full of my husbands relatives, but all my bridesmaids, except SIL in Montana, my mom, my grandma and a close college friend came. It was a beautiful sunny day in May, and after my shower my SIL and I went to the store bought paint and painted a bedroom to surprise my husband who was gone all weekend. Then I also threw away things I knew he would want to keep but we didn't need now that we had our new gifts. :)

Next week... Bridal Shower Numero Dos.. :)

Wedding Wednesday -- Planning Part 2

Last week I covered the wedding/reception site, bridesmaids dresses, DJ and photographer). Here is that part.

This week I am covering Wedding Dress shopping, flowers, cake, and Officiant.

These are all topics that I was so wishy washy on. I knew what kind of dress I wanted, but the daunting task of trying on a gazillion dresses never really appealed to me. I had gone to a bridal store near here one afternoon with my mom and pretty much narrowed down the style / designer I liked but didn't find THE ONE. So came the all day extravaganza shopping trip downstate with my mom, MIL, bff, aunt and two cousins. We went to a ton of different stores. And I pretty much tried on the same type of dress at every store, except for the times I let them all talk me into something I didn't really like to see how it looked.

I believe by the time I found my dress I was STARVING. I had wanted to go to one last shop before I hate food and bloated out like crazy. So of course I found the dress I wanted and that took forever and a day and my BFF and my cousins and I were wilting away. We need our food. My mom is a darling and bought me my ridiculously expensive Maggie Sottero dress. Then she got swept up in the moment and bought me a ridiculous tiara and veil that we should have gotten cheaper elsewhere but there was no talking my mom out of it. She threw waaaay too much money on it. But I love her, she loves me and I loved my dress and everything.
Flowers: I knew I wanted Gerbera Daisies and bright colors. I probably was in the flower shop all of 15 minutes. I got simple and I got pretty. Plus, we were going to be outside with tons of flowers all around us. Who needed the extra expense?? I mean seriously our flowers were nothing compared to everything else. Plus, the people who own the flower shop are relatives of one of my former bosses so they delivered them for free. Yay.

Cake - It was a given from the beginning that my husband's cousin would make it. I had two meetings with her and at our first I was kind of pushed into a direction I had no intention or desire to be going in from my mom and her. It just wasn't anything I ever wanted but then again I am not a huge cake person and already knew I was going to have cookies for dessert as well. Then we had the shower my mom's family threw for me and my aunt had gotten the cake and it was FABULOUS. I took pictures, emailed them to the cousin and said, can we do something like this??? And viola, the most yummy beautiful cake ever. There were multiple flavors and I think they were french vanilla, rainbow chip and umm something I don't remember... Whoops.

Officiant - These would be the funniest part. Neither of us really go to church. The pastor at his parents church? I'd rather gouge my eyes out. Our one friend was ordained online and we had asked him kinda informally and he was wishy washy about it because he was a bit overwhelmed with the size of the wedding and what not. We really didn't have anyone to marry us until a few months before the wedding. We were discussing the situation with my aunt and she was like why not your uncle??? So my uncle got ordained online to marry us. He would also be THAT uncle. The uncle every family has. The loud funny out there uncle. The inappropriate uncle. Yeah, he married us. He may have had a story about exotic shaving that he shared in the middle of my ceremony. It was great.
Coming Next Week: Bridal Shower 1

Wedding Wednesday --- Planning Part 1

So I prematurely posted last week and didn't realize it right away because I am a nerd who totally wrote that post like a week and a half before I posted it. So.. sorry to just end it with a photo (plus I had meant to post more.. but I forgot.. whoops)..

Anyway, today's topic... Planning (Wedding/Reception Site, Bridesmaids, DJ, Photographer)

Planning was probably my least favorite. And I will be honest --- My mom did a lot. A super lot. My hubby and I did the initial leg work and then we kinda petered out. I never was a girl who was sooo excited about planning my wedding day. I had certain ideas and after that I was very willing to let my mom take over. She was awesome.

(this photo is of the pavilion we we would get married.. i
n keep in mind these were all taken in April 06 so it's not pretty
outside yet ha)
We knew immediately where we wanted to have our wedding/reception. The summer before we got engaged we had been to an outdoor wedding at this place which was beautiful. Plus, the hall was AMAZING and huge and it looked out over a golf course and the garden area where we would get married. Honestly, like 3 weeks after we were engaged we already were trying to get a weekend for the next summer. We had wanted to get married in July, close to the date we met, but the nearest Saturday wedding day they had both the outside and the hall available was August 18th, 2007. And our wedding day was settled.
(few of the pavilion from the hall)

a picture of part of the reception hall ( it was HUGE!)
though we did have over 300 guests.. eep

the cute little corner that would hold my cake and cookie table :)

a view of the dance floor where we would be boogieing..

I also found the style and color of my bridesmaid dresses super early. I was also trying on bridesmaid dresses at this point to be in another wedding. So I had all of the David's Bridal packets with me. But I really had no intention of ordering anything through them just wanted ideas. I want short, sleeveless and non tacky. I would say I was successful. They are still dresses I look at and wish I had one! I could totally see myself wearing it to a summer wedding and I know a couple of my bridesmaids DID re-wear them.

one of my beautiful bridesmaids trying on the dress

As I mentioned in the last post, we went on spring break RIGHT after we got engaged. I brought notebooks and planning stuff for our car ride. (My mom bought me a super cute folder to store all my papers in.) We had our bridal party figured out by the time we got to Tennessee. We each had 6 people, which is a lot but to include his sisters and my brother we adjusted. I had 3 of my good friends since I was like 3 in it, as well as his cousin who I became super close to and his 2 sisters. I honestly wish I could have included my dear college friends because they were so dear to me as well, but I couldn't very well have had ANYMORE in my already excessive bridal party. I also had 3 ring bearers mainly because they were all three very important to me. (My godson and the two brothers I nannied for.)

Our DJ was super easy for us as well. His cousin got married in 2005 and had a really great DJ. We already knew we wanted him and thankfully he was available. He came across the state and didn't charge a traveling fee at all. I loved him at his cousin's wedding but honestly he pissed me off at mine and I will talk about THAT in a later post.

Our photographer was also a quick pick as she was a client of my husband's and a family friend. Now here is where I say, don't have family friends who aren't REAL photographers but used to be do your weddings. Because if you are like me, you will end up hating all of your forced photos and wish you would have spent more money on a photographer. Here is where you should care about your photographer and not be like me who decided I really didn't care. One big wedding regret. I hate seeing beautiful lovely candid shots of people and my terribly forced photos.. Boo. Also, if I could have someone who would have said FIX YOUR MAKEUP a few times to me, that would have been nice too. Yucky, sweaty photos.

Anywhoo...

That is all for today's wedding post.... Part 2 of the Planning coming next Wednesday.. I will cover (Wedding Dress shopping, flowers, cake, and Officiant! To catch my other Wedding Wednesday post click here.

Wedding Wednesday - The Engagement

This is a new weekly feature that I am going to host where I give out the gory details about my wedding. Because, it was a huge undertaking and by golly I should get some more mileage out of that very expensive day! I know I have shared some photos before and some I may re-share while I go through and discuss the various parts of one of the most fun days of my life.

So for installment one we have… dun dun dun… THE Engagement..

March 2nd, 2006 I had a snow day from college. It was really snowy and the roads were not good. I had to work until noon and then I had the rest of the day off. I went to Hungry Howie’s and picked up a supreme pizza and stopped by the corner store picked up a 12 pack of Killians. My now husband was busy working because he worked full-time even when we were in school. So I kept emailing/calling telling him about how much fun I was having on my snow day and how he should join me. Well he finally did around mid-afternoon and we were being really being lazy and took a 2 and a half hour nap.. We drank some Killians and had some pizza then we watched part of Never Been Kissed. Do not ask me how I got him to watch that because I have no idea.

However….

At like 7:40 he's like we gotta get ready to go to Applebee’s and turned on music. So I turned off the TV (and he later said if I had not, he wouldn’t have proposed that night) and started getting ready. The song he put on was, "How forever feels" by Kenny Chesney. And I of course was dancing around the room like crazy, being silly, while brushing my teeth and putting on makeup. Of course the whole time during the song thinking, man I want to know how forever feels, ha ha... SO AFTER thee song he comes over to me washing my hands and took my arm and I was like can't I finish washing my hands and he said, "No, I want to know how forever feels." he got down on a knee and said.. "Will you marry me?" and I of course said OH MY GOD.. started crying, hugged him, kissed him, said I love you and then I went after the ring, which was a gorgeous white gold princess cut with 3 stones which was 1 carat. He also was a dear and had it resized before he gave it to me so I could wear it right away!

a picture of my ring soon after we were engaged

we went on spring break the week after we were engaged, and this photo is from the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee

this was also on that spring break trip.. not sure where we are
